FIXED WING COURSES

FIXED WING COURSES

The Snohomish Flying Service (SFS) program training cost estimates are based on Federal Aviation Regulations (FAR) Part 141 minimum time requirements. Additional hours may be required based upon individual student learning and the frequency of lessons. Frequent lessons reduce the need for repetition and review regarding skills and knowledge already learned.

For advanced courses (above Private Pilot), SFS assumes that the student will move from one course of training to the next in close to minimum times. However, estimated hours for completion of advanced courses may be reduced or increased based upon student learning and the number of hours logged.

It is easy to get started, once you've decided that you want to become a pilot or further your career in aviation. Contact us using the information below and we’ll walk you through the enrollment process and before you know it, you'll be cleared for takeoff!

Course Overview
Your first step in entering the world of flight and the freedom to travel in the most exciting way possible! If your goal is to just get away for a weekend or the beginning of a new career, the Private Pilot license is the first license you will earn which allows you to carry passengers and share the fun.

The training program we use provides an integrated training approach. This means that the flight and ground lessons compliment each other. It’s learning about a skill or procedure and then going out and using that knowledge in a practical application. For example, learning the parts of the airplane and their function in a ground lesson, and then going out to the airplane and performing a preflight inspection of the items learned in the ground lesson. This results in a faster and better retention of the knowledge or skill learned.

The course has 3 Stages of training. Each stage is broken down into modules, which are designed to make your learning experience fun, challenging, and rewarding.

The first stage is learning the basics of how to safely prepare for flight, aircraft systems, basic aerodynamics, airspace and regulations, etc. All of which lead up to your first solo flight!

The second stage is where you’ll learn how to make specialized landings and takeoffs from short or soft fields, navigate on a cross-country, and experience the spectacular views and fun of flying at night.

During the third and final phase of your training you’ll be practicing all that you have learned under the supervision of your instructor, and completing solo cross country flights, honing your flight skills, and preparing for your practical exam with an FAA designated examiner, who will grant you the Private Pilot License!
